Fundraising Update

As of October 31, 2003, through the generosity of 121 donors, the China AIDS Orphan Fund has raised more than $33,000!

In addition, we have also received a generous pledge of $10,000 from a single donor!

First Grant Awarded!

After a rigorous due diligence review, conducted by Give2Asia, we have made our first grant of $9,500 to the Hong Kong based Chi Heng Foundation which is already established in Henan province as a charitable organization meeting the needs of AIDS victims and their families. To date, your contributions have been used to place 146 kids in school for the 2003-2004 school year!

Who is Give2Asia?

Give2Asia is a US nonprofit organization founded by The Asia Foundation. They provide individuals, families, corporations, and foundations with the tools for fulfilling their charitable goals in Asia. Give2Asia makes giving to Asia easier, more effective, and more accountable, and eliminates many of the challenges encountered by international donors.

Give2Asia will partner with the China AIDS Orphan Fund and The Minneapolis Foundation by carrying out due diligence in China. This step helps to ensure that funds from CAOF are responsibly and efficiently distributed in the region.

New Grant Opportunities

In order to increase our effectiveness in China, we are currently in contact with additional organizations engaged in work helping AIDS orphans. In the future, we hope to continue our work with the Chi Heng Foundation while also expanding our ability to meet our goals and affect the lives of more children through the use of numerous social service avenues.

AIDS Orphan Art Exhibit Comes to the Twin Cities Area

An exhibit of art works produced by the children in the AIDS affected villages in Henan Province will be presented at a number of Twin Cities public venues beginning at the Breck School, from November 3rd through November 13th. The Breck School is located at: 123 Ottawa Ave, Golden Valley, MN 55422. (Complete directions follow at the end of this article)

Although you can view the exhibit any time the school is open, members of the China AIDS Orphan Fund Board will be on hand at the reception to be held on the evening of November 11th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. We look forward to seeing many familiar faces as well as greeting those of you whom we have not yet met.

The exhibit features 25 drawings by the Orphans from the AIDS affected villages with essays which speak of their hopes for the future. The essays are written in both Chinese and English.

These drawings were featured last year in similar exhibits in Hong Kong and were well received there.

Directions to the Breck School:

From the Airport
Take 494 west to Highway 100 north. Pass over I-394 (Highway 12) and take the next exit, Glenwood. At the stoplight take a left onto Glenwood and go two blocks to Ottawa. Go left onto Ottawa, and Breck School is at the bottom of the hill.

From St. Paul
Follow I-94 west through Lowry Tunnel and exit onto west I-394 (Highway 12). Take I-394 west to the North Highway 100 exit. Go north on Highway 100 to the next exit, Glenwood. At the stoplight take a left onto Glenwood and go two blocks to Ottawa. Go left onto Ottawa, and Breck School is at the bottom of the hill.

From North/Northwest
East on I-94 past 494/694 interchange to Highway 169 (Cty. Rd. 18). South on 169 to Highway 55. East on 55 to Highway 100, and then south on 100 to the Glenwood exit. At the stoplight take a left onto Glenwood and go two blocks to Ottawa. Go left onto Ottawa, and Breck School is at the bottom of the hill.

From Northeast of Twin Cities
Follow either Highway 35W or 36 into the Minneapolis area to I-94. Take I-94 west to I-394 (Highway 12). Go west on 394 to Highway 100. Go north on Highway 100 to the next exit, Glenwood. At the stoplight take a left onto Glenwood and go two blocks to Ottawa. Go left onto Ottawa, and Breck School is at the bottom of the hill.

From West
East on I-394 (Highway 12) to Highway 100. Go north on Highway 100 to the Glenwood exit. At the stoplight take a left onto Glenwood and go two blocks to Ottawa. Go left onto Ottawa, and Breck School is at the bottom of the hill.

The Perpich Center
